Option 2: Coaching for improved work performance package

Coaching can help you improve your performance at work. Using a series of tools and techniques coaching can enable you to really identify which areas of your job you are good at and which areas you find more difficult. Once this has been established plans can be developed and executed to assist you in working on the areas you find more difficult and on thereby improving your overall work performance. This course includes five individual sessions with a coach.

Cost: £400*.

Through coaching you will learn what your key skills are and how you can use these to improve other areas of your working life. Coaching will help you identify areas that you have trouble with at work (such as conflict management, time management, communication, work relationships, procrastination or delegating) and your coach will work with you to develop strategies aimed at improving your performance in these areas.

Structure of coaching for improved work performance

A course of five sessions is recommended for clients and although tailored specifically to the individual client would look something like the example given here:

  • Session 1: The first introductory session would outline the coaching process and the roles and responsibilities of both the coach and the client.
  • Session 2: Following the first session would be an in-between session assignment which would be used as the basis for the second session where the clients desired outcomes for the sessions would be identified. At this second session a Wheel of Work tool would be used to help clients see the comparative levels of satisfaction they have in different areas of their working life. This will allow the setting of a plan of action for the remaining sessions.
  • Sessions 3 and 4: These would consist of choosing items from the client's agenda to work on. Different tools and techniques would be used to help the client identify and change thoughts and behaviours which are impeding their potential at work. Negative thoughts and experiences will be identified and replaced with more positive and enabling ones. Through these tools and techniques the areas of the client's working life which are less satisfactory than the others can be worked on. Small changes in specific areas can often have a much larger effect on the client's overall performance.
  • Session 5: Finally there is a review session to consolidate what has been achieved and to plan how the client can move forward with improved job satisfaction and performance. During this session the Wheel of Work tool would again be used and clients would be asked to reflect on the progress they have made.
