Psychology Services Team Member, Part-Time  

Starting Salary £18,000 per annum pro rata

First Psychology is a growing and dynamic psychology and counselling services provider in the independent sector, operating from 8 clinical centres across Scotland and working with individual and organisational clients. 

We are seeking to appoint a part-time psychology services team member to work in our core team office at Coates Crescent in Edinburgh. This role would suit someone with a keen interest in psychology, counselling and mental health who has recently graduated with a relevant degree. Candidates with exceptional relevant skills and the right personal qualities will also be considered.

To be suitable for this role it is essential that you are a confident team player with fantastic communication and organisational skills who will thrive in a busy, sometimes challenging, environment.
As a key member of our central support team, the successful candidate will assist our clients find the right therapeutic practitioner and approach for them, as well as with providing support to our organisation and the 50 psychology and counselling practitioners working with us in our clinical centres. 

This is a busy and demanding client focused role with exciting opportunities for learning and development in this field.  However to be successful you will need to be able to demonstrate the following

  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and rapport building skills, with the ability to offer a sensitive yet effective service to our clients and colleagues

  • Highly developed team working skills, and a strong ‘team-focused’ ethos in your approach

  • Personal integrity and the ability to be a mature and responsible presence in our organisation

  • An understanding of, or willingness to learn about, key issues in contemporary psychology and counselling approaches to mental health

  • An ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment where priorities can change in line with service demands

  • Great planning and organising skills, with the ability to work on your own initiative and make autonomous decisions consistent with organisational practice

  • Strong problem solving skills with a high attention for detail as well as the ability to think through challenging situations and find solutions where necessary

  • Computer literacy and highly developed computer skills (Word, Excel) etc


  • Key point of contact for telephone, e-mail and web-mail enquiries

  • Advising and signposting clients to the appropriate therapeutic service or practitioner

  • Liaising with practitioners and consultants to develop effective responses to complex enquiries

  • Using a customer focused approach to filter, assess and help with client queries and problems

  • Being a point of contact for business and EAP clients, providing a case management service where required

  • Administrating bookings, taking credit/debit card payments, updating spreadsheets and maintaining databases.

  • Liaising with practitioners to ensure clients receive the best possible service

  • Ensuring our clinical venues are effectively managed and alerting the leadership team to any issues when they arise

  • Organising and administrating training events, and undertaking other ‘externally-focused’ activities in support of the organisation

  • Input into office operational meetings, identifying challenges and opportunities for further developing the quality of service offered to our clients

This is a part-time permanent position, 18 hours per week, days Wednesday, Thursday and Friday based in our Central Support office in Edinburgh at Coates Crescent, EH3 7AL. The starting salary for this role is £18000 pro rata, with 28 days holiday pro rata and eligibility to join our company pension scheme.
