Mark works with people with a wide range of issues and problems including: depression and bi-polar disorder; anxiety; addictions; trauma / PTSD; grief and loss; anger management issues; personality disorders; low self-esteem and gambling addiction. He has extensive experience of working with relationship issues and family conflict / reconciliation.
Mark has particular experience of working with people with addictive disorders and issues related to this; people presenting with personality disorders; and men with trauma and anger-management issues. And he has experience in working with couples and families delivering a systemic approach in a person-centred way.
Mark also offers coaching to individuals wishing to overcome obstacles to achieve their goals and clinical supervision to individual practitioners in the field.
Mark's way of working
Mark takes a psychodynamic approach to therapy and specialises in transactional analysis psychotherapy. In addition he uses a number of evidence-based approaches in his work which he tailors to suit the needs and preferences of each individual. These include counselling; psychotherapy; cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT), Reality Therapy / Choice Therapy, DBT-informed therapy; and Mindfulness-based therapy. Mark works in a flexible, collaborative and person-centred way with each person, couple or group - he places the therapeutic relationship at the heart of the therapy process, believing this to be the key to successful therapy.
Mark's background and training
Mark has extensive experience of working in residential settings specialising in the treatment of addictive disorders. He has a Diploma in Addictions Studies and Counselling; a Post-Graduate Certificate in Psychotherapy; an MSc in Drug and Alcohol Studies. He has also undertaken Focus Integrated Training - working with individuals and groups with dual diagnosis; and DBT training as well as training in Reality Therapy and Lead Managment; Clinical Supervision; and Leadership and Management. Mark has experience managing teams of counsellors and psychotherapists.
