Helena Heveran is an experienced counsellor / psychotherapist who works with individual adults, couples and groups. Helena works with a wide range of issues including: trauma, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, transitions/changes, health related problems, work/life stress, alcohol/substance misuse, sexual orientation, relationship issues and bereavement/loss.
Helena's way of working
Helena takes a person-centred approach to therapy and incorporates a number of other therapeutic approaches into her client work where she feels these may be helpful. Helena offers Person-Centred Therapy, Reality Therapy, Mindfulness Based Therapy, DBT-informed therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Trauma Resource Building. She uses these approaches either individually or in combination to provide a tailored approach to each client's individual needs and preferences.
Helena's background and training
Helena has a PG Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy, a COSCA Certificate in Counselling, Basic, Intermediate and Certification in Reality Therapy; Focus Integrated Training – working with individuals and groups with dual disorders; and a BA Degree in Applied Addiction Studies. In addition she has undertaken the following additional CPD training: Dialectical Behaviour Therapy; Suicide; Personality Disorders; Life Support – NHS Borders; Adult Safe Guarding (prevention of abuse); Compulsive Exercise and Eating Disorders; Substance Overdose and Withdrawal; Working with Anxiety; Ethics; Trauma; Neurobiology of Trauma.
Helena has worked in a number of different therapeutic settings including a residential/hospital setting where she worked with a range of issues including substance/alcohol dependence, depression, anxiety, PTSD, personality disorders, sexual orientation, grief/bereavement and sexual abuse. She is also experienced in working with family difficulties and facilitating family therapy sessions with adult clients.
Helena currently works with Acorns Bereavement Support Services as a programme facilitator where she has gained greater insight into bereavement and loss issues.
Helena is a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
