Works as Senior Psychotherapist / Art Psychotherapist at First Psychology Centre, Edinburgh.
She works with a wide range of issues and problems including: depression / low mood; anxiety; anger; abuse; bereavement / loss; life transitions; self harm; gender and sexual identity; assertiveness; Aspergers' syndrome; and many other issues.
She is particularly experienced in working with children, adolescents and adults suffering from psychological distress or poor mental health; children and adults with learning disabilities; people for whom communicating distress is physiologically or psychologically difficult; and people with complex physical disabilities/illness. She is experienced in working across different cultures.
In addition, Lesley offers supervision for fellow practitioners on a one-to-one basis.
Lesley's way of working
Lesley strongly believes in working with each person in a non-judgmental, respectful and compassionate way. Her aim is for each individual to feel heard - either verbally or through art. She takes a broadly psychodynamic approach to her counselling and psychotherapy work, and works in a person-centred way when offering art psychotherapy, which is integral to this type of therapy.
Lesley's background and training
Lesley has 16 years’ experience working in the Child and Adult Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in Scotland. Most recently she has worked as a self-employed clinical supervisor and set up a charity ‘Zambia Therapeutic Art’ where she collaboratively designed and delivered training for mental health professionals in Zambia.
Lesley has a Post Graduate Diploma in Art Psychotherapy from Glasgow Caledonian University, a Certificate in Clinical Supervision from The Scottish Institute, and a Certificate in Social Service (Social Work) from the University of Aberdeen. In addition, she has an MSc in Africa and International Development.
Lesley is registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) and the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT). She has a Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Certificate -children and adults.
