Laura McLeod is a CBT counsellor who works with individual adults with a wide range of issues and problems including: anxiety; depression/low mood; stress; anger; assertiveness; bereavement/grief; body image issues; exam stress; gender and sexual identity; life transitions; relationship issues; self harm; and many more issues.

Laura has particular experience working with health anxiety; panic disorder; general anxiety disorder (GAD); social anxiety; obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD); stress; perfectionism; procrastination; depression; fears and phobias; and self-esteem. 
 

Laura's way of working

Laura uses a cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) approach in her work with clients and tailors her approach to meet the individual needs and preferences of each person. She may include elements of third wave CBT approaches such as Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focussed Therapy (CFT), and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), as well as Person Centred Counselling where appropriate. 
 

Laura's background and training

Laura has over ten years' experience working in therapy and support roles helping people with mental health difficulties in a range of settings. These roles include providing cognitive behaviour therapy in a university setting, working in a student counselling and wellbeing service, and working in support roles for a mental health charity.  

Laura has a COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills (Edinburgh College), a Specialist Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (Glasgow Cognitive Therapy Centre), and an MA (hons) in Philosophy and Psychology (The University of Edinburgh). 

Laura is a member of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
