Jeff Salway is a an experienced CBT counsellor who works with individual adults with a wide range of issues and problems including: anxiety; depression; stress; anger/aggression; bereavement/grief; chronic illness; habitual behaviours; life transitions; obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD); post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); relaxation; self-harm; and many more issues.

Jeff has particular experience working with anxiety, depression and trauma as well as suicidal ideation, thoughts and feelings. 
 

Jeff's way of working

Jeff's main therapeutic approach is cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT) and he may use this alone or in combination with elements from other therapies such as compassion-focused therapy and trauma-focused therapies to suit the individual needs and preferences of each client. 
 

Jeff's background and training

Jeff has several years' experience working as a counsellor/CBT practitioner in private practice and in the voluntary sector where he worked for a health charity for over four years. In addition, Jeff has experience of supporting people on a charity helpline. In addition to his role at First Psychology, Jeff teaches post-graduate diploma students. For much of his working life Jeff has been a financial journalist.

Jeff has a COSCA-validated Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Groupwork - A Cognitive Behavioural Approach from the Centre of Therapy; a Certificate in Trauma-Focused Therapy; and a COSCA certificate in Counselling Skills. He has also completed additional training in Compassion-Focused Therapy, Schema Therapy, and Transactional Analysis. 

Jeff is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
