Dr Ian Connor, Consultant Clinical Psychologist
Ian is an experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council and Chartered by the British Psychological Society.
He is familar working with individuals, couples and groups, and welcomes clients who are experiencing difficulties with anxiety, trauma, mood, anger, relationships, grief, sexual issues, workplace difficulties, family difficulties, substance misuse problems or general lifestyle adjustment issues.
He is skilled in a range of psychological approaches including psychodynamic models, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), motivational enhancement therapy (MET) and Eye Movement Desensitizing Reprocessing (EMDR), and uses these to meet the unique needs of any individual he sees. Ian is also able to offer neuropsychological assessment, consultancy, training and clinical supervision. He has considerable experience of using interpreters to deliver psychological therapy to non-English speaking individuals.
Ian was formerly a class and outreach teacher working with children who had been or were at risk of exclusion from mainstream education due to social, emotional or behavioural difficulties. He graduated in Clinical Psychology from the University of Edinburgh in 2005. Ian is interested in identity change, role transitions and how individuals negotiate these changes. This formed Ian's doctoral thesis, which investigated how LGBT-identified young people negotiate role transition to adulthood.
In addition to being a core member of the team at the Edinburgh Psychology Centre, Ian works part-time in the NHS as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist.
Ian charges £85 a session for self-funding clients. He has a range of fees for employers and organisations that are available on request.
