Critical incident debriefing
Events can happen in the workplace or elsewhere that can lead to a great degree of upset or emotional trauma. Some examples include accidents, death of a colleague, events with excessive media interest, events with a familiar victim, etc.
In such instances, critical incident debriefing can provide a structured process:
- to help understand and normalise reactions with guidelines for support
- debrief what happened - to share views/feelings and discuss coping mechanisms and
- to check in a few days to ensure ongoing management.
This type of critical incident debriefing process has been shown by research to minimise the disturbance arising from a difficult event, and reduce the likelihood of adverse reactions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Our Edinburgh centre is able to offer psychology-led critical incident debriefing services, including trauma support - usually at short notice. Please contact us on corporate@edinburghtherapy.co.uk or call us on 0131-668-1440.
